Editorial Committee

The Editorial Committee is responsible for the overall management of the Journal, including editorial policy. Its membership is composed of one member of staff of the Law School, solicitors and trainee solicitors. Current members of the Editorial Committee are:

Editorial Advisor

T P Kennedy LL.B. (Dub), Solicitor

T P Kennedy is the permanent editorial advisor of the Hibernian Law Journal. He is Director of Education of the Law Society of Ireland. He also lectures in the School of Law of the University of Dublin (Trinity College). He is a graduate of the University of Dublin. He edits “Eurlegal” - the European Law Section of the Law Society’s Gazette.


Editor-in-chief

Julia Emikh - BBA (London), BCL, Solicitor

Julia Emikh works as a Legal Counsel in Fortis Prime Fund Solutions, Dublin. She previously worked in Maples and Calder which she joined from another leading Irish law firm. She graduated with a BCL from University College Cork in 2002. She also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Schiller International University (USA and England) and a BCL from the Ural State Law Academy (Russia). In 2004, she obtained the full legal qualification in Russia. Julia participated in the Model United Nations in New York in April 1998. She is a fluent Russian Speaker and also has some level of German and French.


Secretary

Alan Burns - BCL

Alan Burns is the current secretary of the Editorial Committee. He is a trainee solicitor with Arthur Cox. He graduated from UCD with a BCL degree in 2005, and with a Masters in Commercial Law in 2006. He has previously worked for Goodbody Stockbrokers and on secondment in the Office of General Counsel of Merrill Lynch International in London. He is a former National Student Sports Journalist of the Year, and was named best individual speaker in the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition in 2006.


Finance Officer

Peter McKeown-Walley

Peter McKeown-Walley is a trainee solicitor with William Fry and is an attorney-at-law admitted to the bar in New York. He graduated from UCD with a BCL degree in 2003. He is fluent in German and his undergraduate studies included a year at the Bayerisches Julius Maximilians University in Wurzburg, Germany. Prior to commencing his traineeship, he worked in financial services with Olympia Capital Ireland and with Pentagon Capital Management in London. In 2009, he represented the Law Society of Ireland at the international rounds of International Envrionment Law Moot Court Competition at Stetson University in Florida.


Other Members

Alice Lanigan - BA MA

Alice Lanigan is a practising solicitor with a BA in Law and European Studies (UL 2000) and an MA in Biotechnological Law and Ethics (University of Sheffield 2003), her dissertation topic being “The Regulation of IVF in Ireland”. She works primarily in the area of personal injuries litigation and medical negligence.


Roberta Guiry

Roberta graduated from University College Cork with a BCL (2003) and went on to receive a Masters in Criminal Justice in 2004. While studying in UCC she was a co-founder and Editor in Chief of the Cork Online Law Review, launched in early 2002. She was awarded the distinction of College Scholar and received a UCC Scholarship for her final year examination results. She worked for two years in the Law Reform Commission and was the primary legal researcher on the Consultation Papers on Duress and Necessity and on Legitimate Defence. She has published several articles and also worked as a legal editor in Thomson Round Hall legal publishers before beginning her traineeship in Arthur Cox. Roberta has recently been awarded a Diploma in Arbitration from UCD.


Emer O’Connor - BCL LLM

Emer O’Connor graduated with a BCL from University College Dublin in 2003. She was awarded an LLM in European Law in 2004 and a Diploma in Commercial Property in 2008. She qualified as a solicitor in 2007.


Rose Wall

Rose Wall is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin where she was awarded the degrees of LL.B. in 2001 and LL.M. in 2005. Rose trained with and continues to work as a Solicitor for Malcolmson Law in Dublin, a firm which specialises in Medical Law. Rose also lectures in Griffith College Dublin and tutors in the Law Society of Ireland. She also volunteers with FLAC and the Ballymun Community Law Centre. Rose has written for college publications on non-legal issues, and has published an article on the Judicial Avenues available in Organ Retention Cases in the Torts Law Quarterly.


Claire Hirst BA

Claire Hirst graduated with a BA(Hons) in English from the University of Liverpool. She completed her training contract with Arthur Cox and qualified as a solicitor in January 2009. During her traineeship, Claire obtained a Diploma in Commercial Litigation from the Law Society of Ireland. Claire is now undertaking an MA in Publishing at the London College of Communication.


Regan O’Driscoll - BCL, DBS, MA (Cantab), MA (NUI)

Regan O’Driscoll is currently a solicitor with Matheson Ormsby Prentice working in the Employment, Pensions and Benefits group. She graduated with a BCL from University College Dublin and went on to receive a Higher Diploma in Business at the Michael Smurfit School of Business, an MA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Anglo-Irish Literature from University College Dublin. In 2007, Regan represented the Law Society of Ireland at the international rounds of the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C.


Mary Forde - LLB LLM

Mary Forde is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin where she was awarded the degree of LL.B (Ling. German) in 2001. As part of her undergraduate studies, Mary studied for one year at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, for which she was awarded a full DAAD Scholarship. Mary trained as a solicitor with Arthur Cox in Dublin and was entered on the Roll of Solicitors in 2005. During her traineeship, Mary obtained a Diploma in Applied Finance Law at the Law Society of Ireland. Mary subsequently worked as a solicitor in the Corporate Department of Arthur Cox for two and a half years before returning to full-time study. She has recently completed an LL.M in International Human Rights Law at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, N.U.I. Galway and is now working with Amnesty International Ireland in Dublin.


Avril Mangan - LLB LLM

Avril Mangan joined the Editorial Committee in 2007 and was the Committee Secretary for the 2008/2009 edition. Avril qualified as a solicitor with Christie & Co Solicitors, where she continues to work and specialises in Family Law. Avril graduated with an LLB from Portobello College Dublin in 2000 and in 2005 she obtained an LLM from Trinity College Dublin. Prior to being employed by Christie & Co Solicitors Avril worked as a Legal Researcher with the Refugee Legal Services.
